Did Disney clean up the story of Sleeping Beauty?

My English teacher told us that Disney cleaned up Sleeping Beauty's tale (and made it appropriate for kids). Is this true? Was the original story of Sleeping Beauty contain inappropriate/dirty elements?

What about other Disney movies?Did Disney clean up the story of Sleeping Beauty?
Well, Disney did ';clean up'; almost every fairy tale to make it kid-appropriate, but that's not a bad thing.

Sleeping Beauty does have a few differences from the original Brother's Grimm story.

1.) In the movie, Maleficent wasn't invited because King Stefan didn't know of Maleficent. In the original story, the King did know of Maleficent, but didn't invite her because fairies had to be served meals on golden plates, and the King didn't have enough. And when he heard that one fairy was presumed dead, he didn't invite her.

2.) In the movie, Maleficent wasn't a witch, but an old fairy no one had seen in years.

3.) There were 12 good fairies, not 3.

4.) In the movie, Aurora had 16 years to live according to Maleficent curse. In the original Faerie Tale, she had 15.

5.) Princess Aurora grew up as a princess, and was never taken away from her home.

6.) On her fifteenth birthday, Aurora was left alone in her castle while her parents did some party-shopping. And while Aurora was exploring the castle she found a room where an old woman was sewing on a spinning wheel. She never saw one, and wanted to try it, but accidentally pricked her finger just like the curse foretold.

7.) Princess Aurora slept for one hundred years until a prince woke her.

8.) After Maleficent cast her curse on Aurora, she was never seen again.

And that's about it.

If you want to know more on other Disney movies, e-mail me at lilqtkaiden@yahoo.com, i'm always on.Did Disney clean up the story of Sleeping Beauty?
Yes they did! In some variations of the tale she pricked her finger on a straw then fell asleep. The prince, finding her too irresistable, had sex with her. She fell pregnant, had the baby (asleep) and its sucking on her finger looking for milk dislodged the straw from under her nail and she woke up!

The Little Mermaid killed herself in the original tale. As the prince was going to marry another and leave her human, her sisters cut off their hair in exchange for a knife. For her to become a mermaid again she had to kill the prince. She couldn't and killed herself instead. As a reward she was turned into a Princess of the Air, a kind of spirit that did good deeds.

'Fairy Tales' are moral stories that were often gruesome and violent. They have been cleaned up over the years by Disney, as well as others.
Most fairy tales are very dark in their original content, very depressing and rarely ended well, so disney took them and spun most of them in a more positive direction... Kids do not want to see all their favorite characters dying and what not... Remember most of these stories were originally written in the dark ages... Little mermaid died, hansel and gretel dead, Cinderella kills her original mother. Finally in the original version of the tale sleeping beauty, it’s not the kiss of a handsome prince that wakes Sleeping Beauty, but the nudging of her newborn twins. That’s right. While unconscious, the princess is impregnated by a monarch and wakes up to find out she’s a mom twice over. Then, in true Ricki Lake form, Sleeping Beauty’s “baby’s daddy” triumphantly returns and promises to send for her and the kids later, conveniently forgetting to mention that he’s married. When the trio is eventually brought to the palace, his wife tries to kill them all, but is thwarted by the king. In the end, Sleeping Beauty gets to marry the guy who violated her, and they all live happily ever after.
Yeah it was a much darker story from a couple of hundred years ago, in the end she throws herself in a pit to save the kindgom or something like that.

A lot of disney stories were taken from older, darker tales. Have you ever heard the real version of the little mermaid? Not so happy ending.
it was edited for a happy ending.. in the little mermaid she didnt marry the prince and live happily ever after, the prince married another girl and the she was suppose to kill him and get her tail back but she ended up throwing herself off the boat and drowing.. (:
Disney is powered by the dark beast that was cast out of Heaven so long ago. And yes, there are many differences between all Disney movies and the original stories. We did an entire project in Latin class about how mythologicaly incorrect Hercules was.
Disney edited the stories.. The Little Mermaid didn't marry the prince in Hans Christian Anderson's story. She died. I don't know much about the Sleeping Beauty story.
All of Disney's fairy tales are cleaned up. Most of them were written by the Grimm Brothers and were quite gruesome and not intended for children at all.
